Happy Friday. We are now five weeks from winter. It snowed in our town this week, so I got a little taste of what’s to come. I admit I’m not a lover of winter or the holiday season. I like warm days, sunshine and being outdoors. I don’t enjoy shopping, hustle and bustle or the guilt trips the days between Thanksgiving and New Year’s can bring. But, I’m trying to be different this year. Trying to overcome the gloominess that invades my mind when I feel overcome by frigid air and 80s artists blasting cheesy Christmas songs on the radio 24/7. I pledge to myself to do better this year. I.will.do.better.I.will.do.better.I.will.do.better.
Here’s a few things that make me happy. Or at least interest me. Or, at the very least, take my mind off of the cold weather outside.
We really should listen to people……so says Ernest Hemingway.
I like to share a bit about the art world every Friday. Because, well because, it interests me. If you keep up with art news, you know a Warhol painting brought in $105 million this week. Sure, there are people who are upset by this, questioning whether a piece of art is worth millions. I wonder if those people also question what NBA players make per year. If you’d like to compare, click here.
It’s interesting, is it not, what we think of as a gift? We are quick to label people as “gifted”, aren’t we? Here’s an interesting take on our gifts, via Seth Godin: Not a gift
Speaking of gifts, I am excited to announce I’ve uploaded my handmade Christmas gift holders to my Etsy store. I’m proud of my upcycled cans, decorated and turned into gift holders. Click on the photo to see more, plus the rest of my store. {shameless self promotion}
Yesterday I posted about the worst battle. Margaret Thatcher, wise woman that she is, makes a good point:
I leave you with a bit of self help advice {free of charge}. Go forth and live…..have a great weekend.
