Flapjack Friday Faves [07.26]

Happy Friday to all….

Here’s a question to ponder:  Why don’t more of us take up origami?  Check out this lampshade I found on The Adventures of Ernie Bufflo’s blog:

What am I reading?  Olive Kitteridge, which I plan to follow up with  The Casual Vacancy, written by none other than kid lit author extraordinaire, J.K. Rowling. The Casual VacancyI am an introvert, so I will share a blurb from Susan Cain’s book, Quiet, with the world.  I found the video on  Brain Pickings:

There’s zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas.     ~Susan Cain

Thinking ahead to the start of another school year, here’s a lovely writing by one of my favorite people {daughter Allie}:

School

We see these big campuses,

Ancient trees and fall leaves.

Promises of,

“One of the best schools in the world,”

float through our heads.

You could get,

“One of the best educations ever,”

But do they want me?

Do they want people who wear their second-day hair in a sloppy top-knot,

People who wear stained Tommy Hilfiger shirts from thrift stores with leggings they’ve owned for 5 years?

Do they want someone who questions authority?

Someone who rarely thinks before they speak,

and who won’t apologize for saying something they meant?

Do I want to go to school with them?

People who are there to add letters to their name?

Kids who have money,

who come from parents who have money,

and will hopefully give birth to other kids with money?

Do I want to be among generations of collegiate pride?

No.

I want inspiration,

Walls spilling with creativity.

Places where ideas bounce off people.

A school with the stigma that passion should be above everything.

That youth can last forever.

Some Friday funnies:

wife's choice

awkward moment

biggest lie

grandma

Have a great weekend.
